AITP Region Outstanding Chapter for 2005!

** 2008 Chapter Meeting Changes**

Mark your calendars!! Monthly meetings will be held the last Wednesday of each month, 11:30am-1pm at Greystone Restaurant located at 3039 South Blvd, Charlotte, 28209. Tel: (704) 523-2822.

  • Location and Menu Options
We are delighted to offer our members a new meeting location. This space will offer a larger and open setting for networking with each other and provide growth for additional members and guests. Our goal this year is to grow our membership and offer interactive topics to help you in your leadership development as an IT Professional. To keep costs down for members, we will leave it up to members and guests to purchase lunch at the restaurant. Greystone provides an assorted and inexpensive menu for lunch.

  • Meeting Time
The monthly meeting time has changed to "lunch and learn" meetings instead of dinner meetings. This is based on responses and attendance from prior meetings that were held after work hours. We are going to try this new schedule to see if this fits better for our AITP members and guests. Note that we may still have some meetings at night if we're planning a tour at a company that requires after hour attendance. You will be notified in advance if there is a schedule change.

We look forward to helping you get the most from your AITP Membership in 2008!

If you are intersted in speaking or participating in a panel discussion this year, please contact our VP of Programming, Dawn Leitner, at

The Challenge for IT Professionals

  • IT keeps changing - The IT industry is constantly changing, which makes it difficult for IT professionals to stay abreast of all the changes and their potential impact on their career.
  • Lack of networking opportunities - Networking events allow individuals to share knowledge with one another, boost morale, and help uncover business opportunities. However, IT professionals often do not have networking opportunities that are standard for other professions.
  • Lack of respect  - IT is a relatively new industry compared to other established professions, and its dynamic nature makes it difficult for the general public to understand what IT is really about, as well as its impact to businesses in terms of saving costs, increasing productivity and generating revenue. This lack of understanding has negatively affected the public’s perception of IT as a true profession.

AITP Charlotte and its sponsors are dedicated to facing and overcoming these challenges.

Our time has come – to be recognized as true professionals along with doctors, lawyers and engineers.  Information technology (IT) is acknowledged as a critical factor in the success of companies today.   We are no longer simply cost centers providing technical support.   We are "enablers" - strategic assets that allow management to make informed decisions in order to stay competitive in the marketplace.   In addition to reducing costs through process automation, our efforts directly increase productivity and generate revenue.    We keep the "digital nervous system" healthy and enable our companies to react quickly to change.

As part of a true profession, we cordially invite you to join other IT professionals like yourself as part of the Association of IT Professionals (AITP).  We are a nationally recognized organization focused on helping IT professionals understand the increasing role of IT in business, and we host monthly meetings and special events that also allow our members to network with each other and local companies.   Join us and help to elevate the status of the IT profession!
